The word 'bespoke' essentially means 'tailor made or 'personalised'. One of the unique and personalised aspects of a Civil Funeral conducted by Bespoke Civil Ceremonies is that we keep you constantly invloved in the creation of the service.

What is a Civil Funeral?

A Civil Funeral is a Ceremony that is designed and created to meet your family's needs, wishes and beliefs. In a Civil Funeral the focus is very much on celebrating the life of your loved one who has died and providing you with the type of funeral service that you want. We call it a 'bespoke' service because we tailor make the ceremony to your exact needs and wants.

Neil Dorward is one of the most experienced and longest serving Funeral Celebrants in the UK and is the only person in the UK to have been awarded a Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy with High Distinction. He will help you create the most meaningful and dignified funeral service befitting your loved one who has died. He is a skilled listener and a professional public speaker - recognised by one of the most respected bodies in the UK, the Professional Speakers Association.

He is the an expert when it comes to Civil Funerals - He wrote the book!

One of the unique and personalised aspects of a civil funeral conducted by Bespoke Civil Ceremonies is that we keep you constantly invloved in the creation of the service. Through the use of email, a draft version of the entire service - including the eulogy/tribute- will be sent to you normally within 24 hours of our initial meeting. This means that you can change and personalise the funeral in any way you see fit and can even make changes right up until the night before the service. You decide the words and the general tone of the funeral celebration.

During bereavement, it is comforting to have experienced and qualified people to help you through the funeral process. Our Celebrant offers personalised, compassionate and dignified funeral services and, will ensure this final act of love, will help you express your affections and final farewells.

Bespoke Civil Ceremonies will make sure that all the special moments in your loved one's life are captured and cherished on the day of the funeral. We will ensure you have the funeral that you want. Therefore you can combine hymns and prayers with favourite poetry and CD music. Neil will help you create the most meaningful and dignified funeral service that is a true reflection of your loved one who has died.

Who are these ceremonies for?

In essence, Civil Funeral ceremonies are for:

  • families who wished to be involved in the funeral service of their loved one
  • families who want non religious, semi religious or religious funerals ceremonies that are tailored made
  • families who wish to give the very best for their loved one who has died

Creating a Civil Funeral ceremony

A home visit will be made where the nature and content of your Civil Funeral Ceremony will be discussed.. Neil will offer you suggested readings, poetry, music, reflections etc to choose from, although families may offer their own suggested material for the funeral service. For example, you may have a favourite piece of music or poetry or a 'show and tell’ item that had special meaning and significance to the family.

During the ceremony, Neil will deliver a eulogy reflecting the individual’s personal stories, memories, loves etc. However, if a friend or member of the family wishes to deliver the main eulogy or say a few words, this can be accommodated. Help can even be offered in writing these words. A Civil Funeral is special because it allows the family to get involved as much or as little as they want and to even be creative.
